Are you a Heavy Equipment Technician, 3rd/4th Year Apprentice who enjoys solving puzzles, tracing problems, and creating solutions? This position will provide support andexpertiseworking on industry-leading equipment. You will employ logic and deductive reasoning in diagnosing and troubleshooting. SMS Equipment is looking for a knowledgeable Heavy Equipment Technician,
3rd/4th Year Apprentice to join our highly skilled team at our Surrey, BC branch . This is your opportunity to be part of a safety-driven team that values your expertise and supports your growth.
Wage: $41.85 / $47.08 per hour. Additional premiums apply.
Location: Surrey, BC
Shift: 4x3 - 10 hour shifts
What You’ll Do
Join SMS Equipment and work with some of the largest and most advanced heavy equipment in the world. You’ll play a hands-on role in keeping operations running safely and efficiently by:
- Diagnosing and repairing construction equipment
- Performing troubleshooting and major component replacements in shop and field environments
- Working with hydraulic and powertrain systems
- Ensuring timely, high-quality repairs whether working independently or in a team
- Following all safety procedures, including confined space and PPE requirements
- Make recommendations regarding the extent of repairs and suggest methods of improvement.
What You Bring
We’re looking for a team player with a strong work ethic and safety-first mindset. Successful candidates will have:
- 3rd/4th year apprentice status in the Heavy Equipment Technician trade.
- Strong mechanical problem-solving skills and a commitment to safe, high-quality work
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in both team and customer-facing settings
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Komatsu equipment is considered an asset.
This position is classified as an Individual Contributor role in SMS Equipment’s competency framework, requiring demonstration of core competencies (customer focus, collaboration, and technical/functional expertise).
