Carpenter Foreman Job Description

This role leads a small crew on a variety of commercial special projects, including formwork, cladding, building envelope work, and civil tasks. You will coordinate daily activities on site, provide clear direction to team members, and ensure projects stay on schedule. The position requires regular interaction with clients, so you maintain a high level of professionalism while delivering quality workmanship and safe work practices.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise a small team of carpenters on commercial special projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize daily tasks such as formwork, cladding, envelope work, and civil carpentry activities to keep the project on schedule.
  • Provide clear direction and instruction to crew members, delegating tasks appropriately and supporting them in completing their work.
  • Perform hands‑on carpentry work, including commercial and industrial formwork and general carpentry, using hand and power tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings to guide layout, measurements, and construction details.
  • Monitor progress on site, identify potential delays or issues, and adjust plans as needed to maintain timelines.
  • Interact professionally with clients on site, addressing questions, providing updates, and representing the company in a positive manner.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures, promoting a safety‑focused culture within the crew.
  • Use construction technology tools such as Procore to access plans, track information, and support project documentation.
  • Collaborate with the site superintendent, providing updates on progress, issues, and resource needs.
  • Support and mentor less experienced team members, helping them develop skills and confidence in their roles.
  • Work overtime when required to meet project deadlines and support team and project needs.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience as a carpenter.
  • Proven commercial or industrial formwork and general carpentry experience.
  • Experience overseeing and directing a crew of 3 or more people.
  • Strong proficiency with hand and power tools, including skill saws, nail guns, and related equipment.
  • Ability to provide personal hand tools and a tool belt suitable for commercial carpentry work.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings accurately.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while confidently giving direction to others.
  • Comfort with learning and using construction technology platforms such as Procore.
  • Professional communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with clients and site leadership.
  • Strong focus on safety and adherence to site safety protocols.

You work on commercial construction sites, often across multiple floors, in a fast‑paced and safety‑focused environment. Start times vary by site and may begin at 6:00 a.m., 7:00 a.m., or 7:30 a.m., so flexibility in your schedule is important.
