In supporting the mission of Lassen Community College, a part-time instructor applicant pool has been established to provide highly qualified instructors who are experts in their subject areas, who are skilled in teaching and serving the needs of a varied student population, who can foster overall college effectiveness, and who are sensitive to and themselves represent the racial and cultural diversity of the District community.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications can be found in the Lassen Community College Minimum Qualification Handbook.

Any bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, directly related to the faculty member's assignment or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.

Professional experience is defined as academic or clinical experience in the practice of emergency medicine or prehospital care. A minimum of two years of professional experience must have been completed during the last five years. Must possess appropriate license or certification to practice in California.

Appropriate certification includes;

* Current California physician, registered nurse, physician assistant or paramedic license, OR

* Current California certification as an Advanced EMT or EMT

In addition, applicant must document:

* Completion of forty hours of instruction in teaching methods. [Courses included but not limited to the following:
State Fire Marshal Instructor 1A and 1B, Instructor 1 Methodology;
National Fire Academy's Instructional Methodology; training programs that meet the US Department of transportation/National Highway traffic Safety Administration 2002 Guideline for Educating EMS Instructors such as the National Association of EMS Educator's course, Teaching Methodology college courses]

Licenses and Certificates

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Meeting with classes as scheduled by the Instructional Services Office.

* Teaching classes in accordance with the intent of the college catalog and with the objectives and content of the course outline of record.

* Providing a current syllabus which is consistent with the course outline of record to all students for each class. A course syllabus for each course taught shall be filed by the unit member with the Office of Instruction within one week of the first meeting of the class.

* Reviewing, in cooperation with other faculty in the same subject area, textbooks, workbooks, and other materials.

* Maintaining accurate and current records of student attendance and student achievement in accordance with District procedures.

* Reporting absences to the appropriate Dean.

* Submitting grade rosters to the Office of Admissions and Records within five (5) District business days after the last day of finals. All attendance rosters and other administrative forms must be properly completed as scheduled.

* Being accessible to students for purposes of problem solving and student retention and success.

Knowledge and Skills Abilities

Ability to:

* Analyze problems, determine effective solutions, take independent action for successful results

* Prepare clear, concise and comprehensive written and oral reports

* Effectively communicate in both oral and written forms

* Establish and maintain effective work relationships

* Maintain currency in technological developments in areas of responsibility

* Work with designated computer programs and systems
