Cooperative Extension Area 4-H Youth Development Advisor

Position OverviewThe University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) invites applications for a UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Area 4-H Youth Development Advisor at the Assistant rank. The advisor will develop and deliver UCCE 4‑H Youth Development extension and research programs in Lassen, Modoc, and Siskiyou Counties.
Responsibilities include developing and extending innovative 4‑H Youth Development programs, cultivating community and academic networks, providing academic oversight of the 4‑H community club program, delivering extension activities—including outreach through presentations, workshops, field demonstrations, radio, webinars, newsletters, and peer‑reviewed publications—and leading applied research projects that inform program growth.
The advisor will operate from headquarters in Lassen or Modoc County and will work on site across the three counties, travelling as required. The position requires a minimum of 15% FTE dedicated to statewide 4‑H network strengthening.
Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and evaluate 4‑H youth development programs and curricula.
- Collaborate with 4‑H personnel to deliver in‑school, after‑school, community club, and other out‑of‑school programs.
- Conduct applied research and program evaluation to guide program improvement.
- Share findings via presentations, workshops, newsletters, policy briefs, and peer‑reviewed journals.
- Manage community relationships and coordinate volunteer resources.
- Maintain office hours and attend field visits within the geographic area.
- Education – Minimum master’s degree in youth/child development, human development, education, or related field.
- Experience – Conducted applied research, program evaluation, and youth education programs.
- Leadership – Program and personnel management experience.
- Ability to travel flexibly and hold a valid California driver’s license.
- Background investigation and compliance with California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act required.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. and clearance for employment visa not sponsored.
- Knowledge of positive youth development and outdoor education.
- Strong written and oral communication, teamwork, and collaboration with community stakeholders.
- Experience working with diverse youth and adult volunteers.
- Capable of securing and managing extramural funding.
- Experience engaging diverse youth populations.
- Ability to develop strong community partnerships.
- Excellent communication with regional audiences and elected officials.
- Knowledge of securing extramural funding.
Location:
Headquarters in Susanville, CA or Alturas, CA. The position is not remote; onsite presence and travel across the three counties are required.
Salary range:
Assistant Rank Step I ($85,600) to Step VI ($108,600). Benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, two days per month paid vacation, one day per month paid sick leave, paid holidays, and eligibility for sabbatical leave.
