Koopman Lumber is hiring an Estimator / EWP Designer to support our growing team. This role is responsible for turning plans into accurate material estimates and engineered wood layouts for residential and light commercial projects.

This is a fast‑paced, detail‑driven position where accuracy matters. If you enjoy working with plans, solving problems, and being part of a team that builds real projects, this is a great opportunity.

• Review construction plans and specs to create accurate material takeoffs
• Design EWP floor and roof systems (I‑joists, LVLs, beams, rim board)
• Produce layouts and placement drawings using design software
• Analyze load paths and framing to ensure buildable, code‑compliant designs
• Identify value engineering opportunities to improve cost and performance
• Work closely with sales, vendors, and customers to keep projects moving
• Resolve discrepancies and support revisions as needed

• Experience with estimating and/or EWP design
• Ability to read blueprints and construction documents
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects
• Solid computer skills (Excel, Outlook, Word required)
• Strong communication skills with internal teams and customers

• Experience with Forte, BC Calc/Framer, iStruct, Key Beam/Key Plan, or similar
• Background in lumber, building materials, or construction
• Familiarity with IRC and local building codes
• Experience with Bis Track or similar systems
