Job Description

1.0 FTE Spanish Teacher (MS/HS) reporting to Building Administration and/or designee. Responsible for teaching district‑approved curriculum, creating plans that meet individual student needs, fostering a positive classroom environment, and cultivating effective relationships with students, parents, and staff.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Teach district‑approved curriculum.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes as scheduled.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Establish and maintain pupil‑teacher relationships conducive to effective teaching and learning.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere; encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Participate in planning of curriculum goals and relevant student performance objectives; guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like and communicate these objectives to students; help students to develop individual learning goals and objectives.
  • Develop appropriate instructional materials, activities, and lesson plans, with modifications and accommodations appropriate for individual students.
  • Evaluate individual student accomplishment of goals and objectives, record progress, and adjust individual and group learning activities accordingly.
  • Identify pupil needs and make appropriate referrals and develop strategies for individual education plans.
  • Assist pupils in dealing with academic, personal, and social problems.
  • Work with guidance specialists, staff members, parents, and outside persons or agencies to assist students with special problems.
  • Work with parents/caregivers of individual children to help guide the growth and development of the children.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core State Standards.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities related to student population and certification areas.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/caregivers by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
  • Be available to students and parents/caregivers for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Properly utilize and conserve physical facilities, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist in operating the school as a community of cooperative and constructive members.
  • Integrate technology within instruction to increase student comprehension and interest.
  • Maintain an understanding of the philosophies and principles utilized in District‑wide programs.
  • Follow state and federal special education regulations, as outlined in the IDEA and the requirements set forth in 603 CMR 28.00, as well as state and federal statutes and regulations.
  • Follow all standards and indicators to the best of his or her ability, as described in the Sutton Public Schools Teacher Evaluation Agreement.
  • Adhere to the voted‑upon collective bargaining agreement and any applicable MOUs/MOAs between the Sutton Teachers Association and School Committee.
