Work Hours:
40 hrs/week
Educate visitors to DCR properties on rules and regulations and enforce compliance, issuing non‑criminal citations when necessary.
Promote safe and appropriate use of DCR property while patrolling to protect natural and cultural resources and ensure public safety.
Supervise and participate in ranger activities, initiatives, and programs for conservation.
Assess condition of trails, roads, gates, signage, and other resources; report findings and propose restoration or improvement strategies.
Respond to incidents as a first responder, coordinate with law enforcement, and complete incident reports.
Report criminal activity to appropriate agencies and liaise with them regarding investigations.
Administer first aid to visitors and employees; notify local EMS when necessary.
Assist in design and creation of public literature and maintain bulletin and map boards.
Assist in prevention, suppression, and control of fires on DCR property.
Prepare and conduct tours, workshops, presentations, and programs on natural and cultural history for the general public, school groups and special interest groups.
Participate in search and rescue operations and assist in search functions as duties assigned.
Perform related duties such as maintaining logs, reports, and vehicles.
Represent DCR at meetings with other agencies and entities.
State House Specific DutiesPatrol the State House and adjacent areas on foot or in a patrol vehicle, ensuring security and protecting the environment.
Screen entry of visitors and items using security equipment such as magnetometers and x‑ray machines; check identification.
Control crowds, guard against trespassing, theft, property damage, and injury; expel disorderly persons when necessary and notify law enforcement.
Issue non‑criminal parking citations and tow vehicles within DCR jurisdiction contiguous to the State House.
Maintain records and files, supervise seasonal rangers, and notify designated personnel of emergencies.
Enforce State House building rules and restricted area policies for vehicles and personnel.
Serve as a dispatcher for DCR in State House Base; operate related equipment.
Divert vehicular traffic or pedestrians to avoid congestion and promote safety.
Monitor all communication equipment issued and respond to incidents.

Minimum Entrance Requirements
- At least two years of full‑time, or equivalent part‑time experience in park or resource management, environmental education, water resources or water supply management, or natural/cultural history interpretation.
- Or an equivalent combination of required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions
- An associate's degree or higher with a major in park or recreation management, natural resource management, water resources management, environmental education, or park interpretation may substitute for the required experience.
- Education towards such a degree will be prorated based on proportion of requirements completed.
