Position OverviewFactory Operations is seeking a highly skilled CNC 5-Axis Machinist capable of independently programming, setting up, and operating advanced multi-axis machining centers. This position will manufacture large, complex, precision components used in heavy industrial equipment and requires expertise in advanced machining strategies, tooling selection, and complex part setups.
The successful candidate will be able to work independently after a brief orientation period and demonstrate strong problem‑solving abilities, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality.
Primary Responsibilities- Set up, program, and operate CNC 5-axis machining centers.
- Perform complex milling, boring, drilling, contouring, and finishing operations on large industrial components.
- Develop and modify CNC programs using CAM software and conversational programming.
- Optimize machining processes to improve cycle times, tooling performance, and part quality.
- Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
- Perform first‑piece inspections and in-process quality checks.
- Select tooling, fixtures, and work‑holding solutions for complex machining operations.
- Machine large components weighing more than 4,000 pounds while maintaining close tolerances.
- Troubleshoot machining, programming, and tooling issues.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Train and mentor less experienced machinists as needed.
Maintain safe work practices and compliance with company procedures.
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
Technical School or Apprenticeship training preferred. - Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience, including at least 3 years operating and programming 5-axis machining centers.
- Experience with large-part machining in a heavy manufacturing environment preferred.
- Strong understanding of G-code, CAM software, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
- Advanced blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
- Experience holding tolerances to +/- .0005 inches or better.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Experience with Siemens, Fanuc, Heidenhain, or similar CNC controls.
- Experience with Mastercam, NX, Power Mill, or similar CAM software.
- Experience machining large steel, alloy, and specialty metal components.
- Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement experience.
