Job Summary
We are looking for a Shop Trailer Mechanic II to perform DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, and advanced repairs under supervision. The role is a dedicated on‑site shop position; emergency roadside repairs are not performed.
Salary & CompensationHourly base rate: $26.63–$40.00/hour. Compensation may include commission or incentive programs. New hire bonus: $5,000 (50% after 30days, 50% after 180days).
Duties- Follow safe operating practices and company policies.
- Determine parts required, coordinate with Shop Parts Department, and maintain a clean work environment.
- Assist Service Writer with customer needs and resolve issues.
- Perform scheduled PM, DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty trailers.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, and trailer tools for maintenance and repairs.
- Document work on Repair Orders and upload photos using company device or Karmak app.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation.
- Communicate with Shop Manager and support team for repair estimates and purchase orders.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- Maintain shop‑assigned service trucks and conduct daily inspections.
- Diagnose and repair trailer equipment such as brakes, air lines, pumps, engines, liftgates, and steering systems.
- Assist higher‑level technicians with diagnostics.
- High School Diploma or GED plus 3years of related experience (or equivalent combination).
- Possess a set of hand tools needed for the position.
- Valid driver’s license and at least 21years old.
- Safe driver required; background screening and DOT‑regulated pre‑employment screening required.
- A valid DOT medical card with >4 months remaining, or a DOT physical if ≤4months.
- Current or completed DOE training within 18months (preferred).
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification
- ASE T4 (Brakes)
- ASE T5 (Suspension)
- ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)
- ASE T7 (HVAC)
- ASE 608/609 (Coating)
Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, ability to perform moderate heavy labor, lift, bend, climb, and stand for long periods, strong communication and problem‑solving skills, and ability to diagnose and repair trailer equipment and systems.
