Position: Sr Shop Trailer Mechanic $5000 New Hire Bonus

Job Summary

Sr. Trailer Repair Technician – Non-DOT (Vehicle Operations). Dedicated on‑site shop position. Responsibilities include certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light and advanced repairs, diagnostics, and serving as a trusted consultant to customers and junior technicians.

Compensation

Hourly base pay: $29.42 – $44.13 / hour (incentive, commission and additional programs may apply).

Duties
  • Follow and comply with safe operating practices.
  • Determine parts required for each job and coordinate with the Shop Parts Department.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment; assist with daily cleanup.
  • Apply training and experience to perform job duties; interpret technical information.
  • Work with Service Writer to assess customer needs and resolve issues.
  • Manage concurrent tasks and prioritize work.
  • Act with integrity, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to ethical standards.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs.
  • Execute routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work on Repair Orders using company device and Karmak application.
  • Complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
  • Maintain high productivity and meet standard repair times.
  • Communicate with Shop Manager to obtain approvals and order information.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  • Complete all required safety training.
  • Perform checks and inspections on shop service trucks.
  • Make minor adjustments and repairs to trailer equipment (e.g., brakes, air lines, liftgates).
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer systems including welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels.
  • Identify problems, judge the relevance of information, and recommend solutions.
  • Interpret test instruments (handheld computers, gauges) to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Assist and support junior technicians with diagnostics and parts procurement.
  • Lead on jobsites as requested by customers and technicians.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED with 5 years related experience; or alternative combinations of education and 3 or 7 years experience.
  • All necessary hand tools supplied by candidate.
  • OEM training and certifications preferred.
  • Participation in all company required training.
  • Compliance with DOT federal regulations; ability to complete DOT background check, DOT physical, or submit a valid DOT medical card.
  • Minimum age 21 years.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of trailer parts and systems for repair and maintenance.
  • Understanding implications of new information for problem solving.
  • Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, walk for extended periods, and perform moderately heavy labor.
  • Ability to judge distances accurately.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to determine required tools and equipment.
  • Logical reasoning to evaluate solutions and make decisions.
Required Certifications (to be obtained within 18 months)
  • ASE T8 (PMI)
  • ASE 608/609
  • CDL‑A License
Preferred Certifications
  • ASE T4 (Brakes)
  • ASE T5 (Suspension)
  • ASE T6 (Electrical & Electronic Systems)
  • ASE T7 (HVAC)
