The Project Estimator works on electrical construction projects from bid and proposals through construction phase to completion, ensuring the work complies with all standards, specifications and budgets.
Clearance/Citizen Type: Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements including U.S. citizenship for access to classified information.
Responsibilities- Develop budgets and cost codes for projects; assist in the preparation of technical proposals, to include assisting in the design and writing the scope of work, management plans, work sequence, safety, quality control and commissioning.
- Gather data and assist in preparing bid proposal estimates and design/build proposals.
- Develop and present clear and detailed project scopes to the customer and meet with potential customers to present proposals.
- Run day‑to‑day operations of a project or sub‑section of a project.
- Develop project schedules utilizing the Critical Path Method; assign cost and manpower to the schedule to provide cash and manpower forecasting.
- Understand plans and specifications to identify the types and grades of materials and equipment needed and to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Perform take‑offs from drawings; price change orders.
- Understand and apply cost fundamentals; maintain current, accurate information on prices from suppliers and contractors.
- Identify value‑added solutions and cost‑saving methods.
- Establish labor and productivity rates.
- Identify change orders and ensure effective resolution.
- Price, track and manage change orders.
- Manage coordination, detailing logs, schedule, design development logs and criteria compliance matrix.
- Assist in field inspections / productivity tracking.
- 3+ years of experience with a Master's degree.
- 5+ years of experience with a B.S. in Electrical, Civil, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management.
- 8+ years of experience with a related associate's degree.
- 10+ years of experience with a High School diploma or GED.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite and AutoCAD; experience using sophisticated estimating, project management and scheduling software.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints.
- Knowledge of design principles, relevant codes, and safety standards.
- Familiarity with electrical equipment, materials and specifications.
- Experience with contract documents such as contract drawings, subcontracts, contract addenda, specifications, and change orders.
- Experience or exposure to technical writing.
- Proven ability to effectively plan and organize one's own activities or the activities of others.
- 2+ years of experience working in the communications field with added experience in the electrical field preferred.
- Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish work.
- Generating high‑quality work.
- Working well with others to reach a common goal.
- Must successfully pass a background check.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite is required.
- Local candidates or current M.C. Dean employees preferred.
- MS Project, P6 and Accubid are preferred software.
- LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
- Design‑Build Institute of America (DBIA).
- Journeyman Electrician License, FE License, EIT License.
- Exposure to computer screens for an extended period of time.
