Electronics Manufacturing Technician / SMT Operator - Temp-to-Hire (Gwinnett County, GA)

  • Shift Hours: 1st Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (Monday – Friday, subject to department needs)

Key Responsibilities

This consolidated role covers essential functions across testing, quality, and SMT production:

  • Electronics Testing & Quality Assurance (QA Technician Focus)

    • Conduct comprehensive testing on electronic products, circuit boards (PCBs), and hardware to verify compliance with engineering specifications and quality standards.

    • Troubleshoot and diagnose failed production hardware down to the component level (component-level troubleshooting).

    • Perform Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) and utilize various tools to inspect circuit boards for defects.

    • Support production with failure analysis and debugging of test equipment.

    • Conduct in-process quality checks and resolve manufacturing issues promptly.

  • SMT Equipment Operation & Maintenance (SMT Operator Focus)

    • Operate, set up, and maintain Surface Mount Technology (SMT) production equipment, including pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, and screen printers.

    • Execute efficient setup and changeover procedures for different production runs.

    • Maintain and program AOI inspection stations and debug flying probe testers.

    • Ensure all testing equipment is calibrated and functioning properly to maintain accuracy.

  • Documentation & Collaboration

    • Document detailed test results, record production data, and provide comprehensive feedback for continuous process improvement.

    • Collaborate effectively with engineers and cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical issues.

    • Assist in the development and refinement of new testing protocols and procedures.

    • Provide training and guidance on new procedures to production testing staff.

    • Support electronic circuit board micro assembly processes.

    Required Technical Skills & Equipment Proficiency

    Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

    • Operating Systems & Software: Familiarity with Linux, Unix, and Microsoft Excel.

    • Testing/Measurement: Strong understanding of electronic testing methodologies. Hands-on experience with electronic measuring probes, current probes, voltage probes, frequency meters, and signal/function/RF signal generators.

    • Soldering/Assembly:

      Experience with automatic soldering machines, and proficiency using soldering stations and desoldering stations.

    • Core Skills: Proven troubleshooting and programming skills (e.g., microprocessors). Ability to accurately interpret complex technical documents and specifications (schematics, blueprints).

    Experience & Qualifications

    • Experience:

      • Required: 2 to 7 years of hands-on experience in a similar role within the electronics manufacturing industry.

      • Preferred: 3 to 10 years of experience. A minimum of 1 year of recent SMT or AOI experience is highly desirable.

    • Education (Preferred):

      • Associate Degree, Trade/Vocational School Certificate, or equivalent practical experience.

      • Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.

    • General Requirements:

      • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.

      • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

      • Excellent communication skills and the ability to read, write, and follow directions in English.
