Job Summary
The role involves performing mechanical assembly of structures, mechanisms, and assemblies per designated drawings and procedures. The Mechanical Technician I position includes assembly and installation of a low‑volume, high‑technology, high variation product mix, produced in a project‑driven build‑to‑order production environment. Tasks also include equipment maintenance and cleaning activities associated with various products and facility.
Key Responsibilities- Fasten components or parts together, using hand tools, rivet guns, torque wrenches, and welding equipment
- Positions and aligns components for assembly, manually or utilizing various material handling tools and equipment
- Analyze assembly blueprints, schematics and specification manuals, and assist with assembly, wiring and/or machine building operations
- Rework, repair, and replace damaged parts or assemblies
- Fasten and install piping, fixtures, or wiring and electrical components to specifications
- Inspect and test parts and accessories for leakage, defects, or functionality, using electronic, optical and mechanical test equipment
- Set and verify clearance of parts
- Set‑up and installation of large bearings and slewing rings
- Verify conformance of parts to stock list and blueprints, using measuring instruments, such as calipers, gauges, micrometers, indicators, spinning lasers and laser trackers
- Lay‑out, drill, ream, tap and cut parts for assembly
- Remove rough spots and finish surfaces to fit
- Clean parts or components using hand tools and power tools
- Perform Preventative Maintenance per instructions and update checklists
- Examine parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear
- Assist in the fabrication of panels and structures, requiring material cutting, clamping, gluing, lifting and painting
- 5 years minimum of machine building/assembly experience or a combination of applicable coursework and job experience
- High School diploma or GED
- Knowledge of basic hand tools
- Blueprint and schematic reading
- Follow verbal instructions
- Forklift, aerial device/elevated platform and rigging
- Manually lift/move 45 pounds
- Position requires domestic and international travel, approximately 25% of time
- Applicants must have legal right to work in the U.S. and must be authorized to access export‑controlled information and source code
- Manufacturing and Mechanical background
- Optical or laser alignment experience
- Set‑up, operation and MDI of CNC machinery
- Cut and weld metal to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, and assemble new equipment. MIG and TIG Welding capabilities
- Set‑up and operation of metalworking equipment such as milling, drilling, turning and grinding machinery to shape or fabricate parts
- Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical background
