Job Title: Structural Steel Erection Foreman

Job Overview:
The Structural Steel Erection Foreman is responsible for leading field crews in the safe and efficient erection of structural steel components on active construction sites. This role requires adherence to project-specific erection plans and compliance with the AISC 207-23 Quality Management System for Structural Steel Erectors. The Foreman plays a critical role in ensuring the installation meets all required specifications, drawings, safety standards, and quality benchmarks.
Primary Responsibilities
A. Project Execution
- Oversee daily field erection activities according to approved structural plans and erection procedures.
- Maintain full compliance with the AISC Code of Standard Practice and all quality requirements under the AISC 207-23 guidelines.
- Participate in job planning meetings and reviews of erection sequences to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Verify that field installations meet tolerance specifications and quality milestones defined in the erection quality plan.
- Maintain up-to-date inspection records, bolt installation logs, and documentation of any deviations.
- Support inspections, including third-party verification, and ensure prompt resolution of quality issues per QMS protocols.
- Lead and enforce all site-specific and OSHA-compliant safety protocols.
- Conduct daily safety briefings and weekly toolbox talks; complete job hazard analyses (JHAs) regularly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment, promoting a culture of safety on site.
- Manage and direct all field personnel, including ironworkers, welders, crane operators, and rigging teams.
- Allocate tools, equipment, and manpower to meet construction timelines and project goals.
- Provide hands-on training and mentoring to ensure compliance with safety and quality procedures.
- Serve as the primary liaison between field crews and project leadership, including contractors, fabricators, and engineers.
- Coordinate lifting activities and crane operations to support efficient assembly.
- Report field changes or unexpected conditions and document them as part of ongoing quality assurance procedures.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in structural steel erection, with at least 2 years in a supervisory position.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical school or vocational training preferred.
- Must hold valid welding certifications.
- Prior experience with construction documentation, including inspection reports, NCRs, and bolt torque logs.
- Certified to operate lifts and other jobsite equipment (e.g., forklift, boom lift).
- OSHA 30-hour safety certification is mandatory.
- Demonstrated understanding of AISC 207-23 standards and quality control systems.
- Able to interpret detailed structural steel drawings and erection schematics.
- Competent Person certifications in fall protection and rigging/signaling are required.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities in fast-paced environments.
- High attention to detail with a focus on safety and quality assurance.
- Comfortable using digital reporting platforms and field tracking tools (e.g., TEKLA Power Fab GO).
- Must be able to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and at elevated heights.
- Capable of lifting 50+ pounds, climbing ladders, and wearing all designated PPE.
- May be required to work overtime, weekends, or evenings depending on project demands.
All responsibilities must be performed in accordance with internal quality systems based on AISC 207-23, including all inspection, documentation, and continuous improvement practices.
