Applied Behavioral Analysis Tutor

Reports To: Special Education Liaison, BCBA, and Building Administrator

Job Overview

ABA Tutors support students with autism and/or emotional disabilities in whole group, small group, and one-to-one instruction, both in and out of the general education classroom. Students will require various types of assistance across their full school day, including support with communication, social-emotional behavior, academics, motor skills, and activities of daily living such as toileting and eating. They are caring professionals motivated to work with students with disabilities, develop new skills through ongoing training, and work collaboratively.

Responsibilities

and Duties
  • Provide communication, social-emotional behavior, academic, motor skills and/or support with activities of daily living, including toileting and eating, to students across all settings to support their access to the school curriculum and achieve IEP goals.
  • Follow explicit lesson plans, prompt hierarchies and/or behavior support plans; collect data under supervision of special educator, school psychologist, and/or BCBA.
  • Contribute to a well-organized, smooth-functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resources.
  • Support instructional settings including the general education classroom, special education classroom, playground, cafeteria, hallways, field trips, and special classes such as gym.
  • Communicate effectively with all school staff and possibly family members.
  • Provide a positive learning environment.
  • Assist the teacher in encouraging interest, enjoyment, appreciation, and curiosity in children.
  • Work with individual or small groups of students to reinforce learning material initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Respect confidentiality of teacher, students, and families.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of school routines, emergency procedures, and academic and social behavioral expectations.
  • Assist with fire and other emergency drills and with the management of students during dismissal, field trips, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and Special Education/Classroom Teachers.
  • Attend professional development and staff meetings on scheduled days.
  • Take responsibility and accountability for assigned tasks, projects, and duties while maintaining a professional manner.
  • Actively listen and respond in a respectful, non-confrontational manner to others, fostering positive attitudes in the workplace.
Qualifications
  • 4-year college degree in a related field or completed RBT certification (40 hours professional development).
  • At least 2 excellent references.
  • Successful completion of required screenings, including CORI, SAFIS fingerprinting, and I‑9 eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Physical capability and willingness to provide levels of support including modeling, coaching, and verbal, visual, and/or physical prompts as required by a student’s IEP.
  • Additional qualifications may vary based on student needs.
Physical Requirements

This position requires long periods of standing, walking, and sitting; talking or hearing in person and by telephone; using hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reaching with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The individual may be exposed to ultraviolet lights from computer monitors and copying equipment and other hazards within the building.
