Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity seeks Associates for its ReStores in Williston, Milton & Swanton. Our ReStores play a vital role in building affordable housing by accepting donations of new and gently used goods, selling them at discounted prices, and promoting sustainability while increasing access to resources.

Pay: $16 per hour
SummaryThe ReStore Associate performs key tasks to ensure the store runs smoothly, including safely handling, sorting, and pricing donations, unloading trucks, moving furniture, and maintaining the sales floor. An Associate provides excellent customer service, which may include cashiering, and ensures customers and donors have a safe, positive experience that promotes the mission of Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity (GMHFH). Associates are expected to lift up to 50 lbs and be on their feet for many hours at a time.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Unload donated items from donors’ vehicles, accepting or rejecting donations based on whether they are in good, sellable condition.
- Impart GMHFH’s mission to donors and provide proper documentation for their donations.
- Assist in unloading scheduled pickups alongside truck drivers and with specialty pickups throughout the week.
- Move items from the truck and warehouse to the sales floor.
- Clean, sort, price, and move donations according to the price guide.
- Work closely with the Supervisor to ensure inventory is maintained to a consistent standard.
- Keep the loading dock area clear and safe; keep the back room free of clutter.
- Keep the sales floor clean, presentable, safe, and engaging for customers.
- Greet customers, answer their questions, and foster a welcoming environment.
- Help complete the daily checklist for opening and closing the store.
- Process customer transactions through the point‑of‑sale system (discounts, coupons, returns, tax exemptions).
- Help customers carry purchased items to their vehicles.
- Sort clothing donations and prepare them for the sales floor.
- Attend community and GMHFH events and assist with set‑up and clean‑up.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Experience working in a retail setting and/or a warehouse.
- Experience handling heavy goods and loading goods for transport (preferred).
- High school diploma (preferred).
- Can communicate well with staff, volunteers, donors, and ReStore visitors.
- Dependable and able to stick to a schedule.
- Can focus on and complete training and loading of the truck for an entire shift.
- Excellent customer service skills to respond to any questions or concerns.
- Strong time‑management skills and ability to prioritize different tasks.
- Flexible to switch to new tasks quickly.
- Can work as part of a team and complete tasks as they are assigned.
- Has basic arithmetic skills for accurate register work.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Equipment is used occasionally for specialty donations.
- Fast‑paced, occasionally noisy environment.
The pay for this position is $16 per hour. Benefits include paid time off accrued with every shift and a 20% discount at all Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity ReStores.
