Position: Natural Resources / Forestry Teacher, High School

CTE Certified Natural Resources

To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Other duties may be assigned.

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
  • Responds in a cooperative and positive manner to supervision.
  • Participates in activities which are related to school functions and/or the educative process which may occur outside the regular school day.
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned non-teaching duties.
  • Plan and present a program of study that meets the individual needs of students in the Forestry/Natural Resources program.
  • Work collaboratively with staff in the development and implementation of the Natural Resources Career & Technical Education certified course work.
  • Instruct with an emphasis on contextual learning.
  • Instruct with emphasis on integrated forest resource management with an emphasis on the role of fire in western ecosystems.
  • Provide a classroom climate conducive to student learning stressing safety, personal responsibility and skill development.
  • Instruct students how to safely operate small machines used in the program, i.e. chainsaws.
  • Instruct with an understanding and appreciation of the northwest's heritage of logging and forest management.
  • Obtain Commercial Driving License.
  • Give students the opportunity to develop leadership skills as well as supervisory skills.
  • Serve as the FNRL (Future Natural Resource Leaders) Chapter advisor and develop a quality chapter.
  • Communicate with parents and community on a regular basis.
  • Provide accurate, timely records of all contracts entered into with community members and the Forestry/Natural Resources program.
  • Plan and prepare a budget for assigned area.
  • Adhere to state, district and school

Forestry Team Coaching Responsibilities:

Coach our established forestry team. Supervise at competitions and CDEs. Teach the related forestry skills that students will need to be successful in FNRL sponsored events and forestry careers. Coaching stipend is available.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises students in assigned classroom and during periods of duty supervision.
  • Supervises teacher assistants and volunteers as may be assigned.

Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or

Experience:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Such alternatives as the board deems appropriate

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid Oregon teaching license
  • Appropriate CTE endorsement(s)
  • Business and industry experience that would qualify for CTE Licensure requirements

Language

Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, and the general public.

Mathematical

Skills:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
