Inspire, Support, and Empower StudentsSweetwater ISD is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Elementary School Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting the academic, social-emotional, and college/career readiness development of elementary students while partnering with staff, families, and the community to create a positive learning environment.

Primary PurposePlan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program that addresses the academic, career, personal, and social needs of all students. Provide individual and group counseling services, consult with teachers and parents, and collaborate with campus and district staff to support student achievement and well-being.
Qualifications Education/Certification- Master’s degree in Counseling, School Counseling, or related field
- Valid Texas School Counselor Certificate
- Previous counseling experience preferred
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred
- Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
- Understanding of child growth and development
- Ability to provide individual and group counseling services
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community agencies
- Knowledge of state and federal laws related to student services
- Implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs.
- Deliver classroom guidance lessons focused on social-emotional learning, character development, and academic success.
- Facilitate small-group counseling sessions based on student needs.
- Provide short-term individual counseling and crisis intervention.
- Assist students in developing problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Support students experiencing academic, behavioral, social, or emotional challenges.
- Consult with teachers, administrators, and parents regarding student concerns.
- Participate in student support meetings, intervention teams, and campus committees.
- Coordinate referrals to outside agencies and community resources when appropriate.
- Interpret student data and assist with identifying student needs.
- Campus Testing coordinator
- Support attendance improvement efforts and dropout prevention initiatives.
- Assist with transition activities for students moving between grade levels and campuses.
- Maintain accurate records and confidentiality in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Participate in professional development and district initiatives.
- Support campus goals and contribute to a positive school culture.
