Position: Assistant Principal (Grades K–2)

Sweetwater ISD is seeking an exceptional instructional leader to serve as Assistant Principal for East Ridge Elementary (Grades K–2). We are looking for a collaborative educator who is passionate about early childhood and elementary education, believes all students can achieve at high levels, and is committed to supporting teachers through coaching, data-driven instruction, and positive school culture.

As a member of the East Ridge leadership team, the Assistant Principal will work alongside the principal to ensure every K–2 student receives high-quality instruction in a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment.

Position Summary

The Assistant Principal assists the campus principal in providing instructional leadership, campus management, and operational support to improve student achievement while fostering a positive learning environment for students, staff, and families.

Qualifications
Required
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas Principal Certificate (at minimum have passed certification test)
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
  • Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Demonstrated instructional leadership experience preferred
Preferred
  • Experience in elementary education, particularly PreK–2 or K–2
  • Experience coaching teachers and facilitating professional learning communities (PLCs)
  • Knowledge of High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM)
  • Experience analyzing student assessment data to improve instruction
  • TTESS appraiser certification or willingness to obtain
Primary Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
  • Support implementation of the district's instructional vision and curriculum.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide timely, actionable feedback.
  • Coach teachers to improve instructional practices and student engagement.
  • Facilitate data meetings and PLCs focused on student growth.
  • Monitor instructional fidelity and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Student Achievement
  • Collaborate with teachers to analyze student performance data.
  • Support interventions for students requiring additional academic support.
  • Promote effective instructional strategies aligned to district expectations.
  • Assist with implementation of MTSS, intervention programs, and progress monitoring.
School Climate
  • Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Support implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and other campus behavior systems.
  • Assist with student discipline while emphasizing restorative practices and student growth.
Campus Operations
  • Assist with daily campus operations and supervision.
  • Coordinate campus safety procedures and emergency management.
  • Support attendance initiatives and student services.
  • Assist with scheduling, campus events, and operational planning.
Staff Development
  • Provide instructional coaching and mentoring.
  • Support new teacher development.
  • Plan and facilitate professional learning aligned to district initiatives.
  • Promote collaboration and continuous professional growth among staff.
