Solid Waste Attendant Part-Time

Job Title

Part-Time Position in Solid Waste Disposal Division

This is a part-time position in which the employee normally works less than 1,000 hours a year. This part-time position is assigned to the Solid Waste Disposal Division, which includes recycling operations. The work hours vary depending on duties assigned. Duties to be assigned include, but are not limited to, staffing gate entrances or landfill pit area, or performing recycling and/or waste diversion operations.

The function of such duties include, but are not limited to, serving as a control point for vehicles entering the facilities, control unloading of waste at designated location(s), ensure regulations and policies are enforced, validate permits, keep daily logs, assist in achieving objectives and goals, coordinate with supervisor and crews.

Examples of duties include:

• Estimate cubic yardage of loads on incoming vehicles, and punch disposal permits accordingly.
• Keep daily logs including billing volumes for commercial users.
• Pick up debris from grounds around building and perimeter.
• Advise facility users of Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations, local ordinances or policies pertaining to vehicles hauling refuse, the confinement therein, and use of the facilities.
• Answer routine inquiries of customers and refer complaints to supervisors.
• Inform supervisor of any pertinent needs, problems, incidents or accidents.
• Communicate with supervisor and other crew members via radio and phone.
• Monitor users offloading to ensure materials are placed in the appropriate containers or areas.
• Insure only approved waste materials are unloaded.
• Operate and maintain forklift in a safe manner and in accordance with policy.
• Operate and maintain baler in a safe manner and in accordance with policy.
• Assist in keeping Drop-Off Center and other facilities safe and clean.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

High school graduate or GED, or equivalent experience to meet requisite skills.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of TCEQ regulations, local ordinances and policies pertaining to vehicles hauling refuse, confinement of waste in vehicles, the proper unloading of wastes, and operation of disposal and recycling facilities.

This position is not eligible for benefits.
