Intensive Care / Coronary Nurse (ICU)

Job Summary:

The Intensive Care / Coronary Nurse (ICU) is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to critically ill patients in the intensive care or coronary care unit. They monitor patients, administer medications, implement treatment plans, and collaborate with healthcare team members to optimize patient outcomes.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Monitor and assess the condition of critically ill patients in the ICU or coronary care unit.
  • Administer medications, perform procedures, and implement treatment plans as prescribed by physicians.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members, including physicians, surgeons, and respiratory therapists, to coordinate patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
  • Educate patients and their families on treatment plans, medications, and post-discharge care.
  • Monitor and interpret patient vital signs, lab results, and diagnostic tests.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide life-saving interventions as needed.
  • Assist with the insertion and management of invasive monitoring devices.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • Qualifications and Skills
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an intensive care or coronary care setting.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
