Position Overview

Georgia‑Pacific, Gypsum plant located in Sweetwater, TX is seeking a qualified Multi‑Craft Maintenance Technician to help ensure successful operation of the facility by resolving mechanical and electrical issues, recommending alternative repairs and equipment upgrades, identifying quality concerns, setting equipment in a precision state, and understanding the production threshold of the equipment.

Compensation

Starts at $39.00 per hour, up depending on experience. Candidates must have basic electrical knowledge in addition to mechanical knowledge.

  • Relocation benefits may be available.
Schedule

Monday‑Friday, 7:00 am–3:00 pm; overtime weekends and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, install, align, dismantle, repair, and maintain industrial machinery, mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, and circuits.
  • Repair and maintain machinery and electrical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operating manuals and manufacturer specifications; includes motors, pneumatic components, conveyor systems and production machines.
  • Perform periodic proactive asset strategies such as maintenance routes and preventative maintenance to improve reliability and uptime.
  • Install and repair mechanical drives, chains, sprockets, gearboxes, belts, and couplings.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot pneumatic systems, control devices, hydraulic equipment, circuits, and components.
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance routes.
  • Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs including labor hours and critical preventive maintenance findings.
  • Work with operations and maintenance teams to identify and prioritize maintenance needs.
  • Help meet or exceed production and quality goals while optimizing equipment to reduce waste.
  • Adhere to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures and actively participate in the safety program.
  • Assist in development and implementation of reliability/precision‑centered maintenance strategies.
  • Use pipe fitting skills to weld, cut, fit, and install piping throughout the facility.
  • Apply problem‑solving methods to identify the root cause and eliminate failure.
  • Work any shift, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Qualifications & Experience
  • One (1) year or more of experience with installation, calibration, fabrication, and preventive maintenance in a manufacturing, industrial, agriculture, oil & gas, or military environment.
  • Experience utilizing and interpreting equipment drawings and schematics such as electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Six (6) months of experience with single‑phase and 3‑phase electrical repair and troubleshooting up to 480 V.
  • Six (6) months of experience with troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Six (6) months of experience with troubleshooting issues and making repairs on bearings, chains, sprockets, gearboxes, and conveyor systems.
  • Six (6) months of experience with precision alignment of motors, couplings, bearings, and pumps.
  • Six (6) months of experience with installing, troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating electrical/mechanical instrumentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of electrical experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or military environment.
  • Two (2) year degree in Industrial Maintenance Technology.
  • Experience with PLCs (RSLogix 5000).
  • Experience with VFDs (Allen‑Bradley, Yaskawa, Toshiba).
  • Experience using a cutting torch and welding with arc welder and fabrication.
