Operates heavy equipment, haul trucks, dump trucks, and other specialized equipment in support of City operations including the City Recycling Center, Landfill, Solid Waste operations, nuisance abatement activities, brush and debris removal, construction, maintenance, and emergency response activities. Performs preventive maintenance and daily inspections of assigned equipment and provides operational support across multiple City facilities and work sites as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Operate heavy equipment including track loaders, skid steers, compactors, excavators, backhoes, motor graders, dump trucks, water trucks, tractors, chippers, and other equipment utilized by the city.
  • Operate haul trucks and equipment trailers to transport materials, equipment, debris, and supplies.
  • Provide operational support to multiple City facilities including the Recycling Center, Landfill, and Solid Waste operations.
  • Excavate, grade, load, haul, and place materials associated with City landfill operations.
  • Assist with landfill, recycling center, and solid waste support operations in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Assist with nuisance abatement, illegal dumping cleanup, brush collection support, and storm debris removal.
  • Maintain landfill facilities, recycling center facilities, and other City-owned property as required.
  • Perform daily inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete and submit equipment inspection and maintenance reports.
  • Inform supervisor of equipment operating conditions, accidents, property damage, and safety concerns.
  • Operate all vehicles and equipment in a safe manner at all times.
  • Communicate with supervisors and coworkers via radio or telephone.
  • Assist other City departments during emergencies, special events, and disaster response activities.
  • Perform manual labor as required.
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.
  • Must be regular in attendance.
EXPERIENCE

Minimum of two (2) years of experience operating heavy equipment, dump trucks, haul trucks, construction equipment, landfill equipment, or similar equipment preferred.

EDUCATION

High school graduate or GED, or equivalent experience to acquire requisite skills.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Must possess a valid Class 'B' Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL). Must maintain an acceptable driving record in accordance with City policy and insurance requirements. Knowledge of safety rules and regulations governing the operation of heavy equipment, haul trucks, construction equipment, landfill operations, recycling operations, and applicable Federal, State, and local regulations.
