Job Title: Automation Engineer
Location: Swiftwater, PA

You will be part of the Manufacturing Systems & Automation department at our Swiftwater site, supporting the manufacturing system automation. The role involves implementing changes to automation systems, updating design documents, executing testing, troubleshooting events, and providing on‑call support.
You will act as a subject‑matter expert for automated process control systems used in licensed manufacturing, collaborating with Operations, QA Compliance, Information Systems, Engineering, Maintenance, and Automation Support technicians.
- System Integration – Ensure seamless integration of automation systems with digital applications to support production, quality control, and data management.
- Deliverable Accountability – Ensure compliance with GMP and regulatory standards, including development of user/functional/detailed specifications, test protocols, and system validation.
- Risk and Compliance Management – Identify and proactively manage risks and ensure compliance with GMP to minimize disruptions.
- Training and Support – Develop and deliver specialized training materials and provide ongoing support post‑implementation.
- Collaboration and Documentation – Work with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Facilities, and Tech Transfer to capture and document detailed requirements.
- Standards and Best Practices – Develop standards and best practices for validation activities; lead cross‑functional teams through design reviews and user acceptance testing.
- Operational Meetings – Participate in facility operational meetings to meet reporting needs.
- Operational Oversight – Oversee daily monitoring, troubleshooting, and support of PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and other control systems to ensure continuous production with minimal downtime.
- Continuous Improvement – Identify, propose, and implement process and system improvements to enhance automation performance, reduce costs, and improve manufacturing flexibility.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration – Work closely with engineering, production, quality, IT, and other teams for alignment with production goals and regulatory requirements.
- Compliance and Risk Management – Ensure all automation activities comply with GMP, safety standards, and other regulations; manage associated risks.
- On‑Call Support – Provide on‑call support during off‑shift hours on a rotating schedule.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, electrical, chemical, mechanical, automation, computer science, biotechnology, or a related technical field applicable to the biopharma sector.
Experience- Automation and Engineering: 2+ years of direct experience in automation systems and support, preferably in biopharma or related industries.
- Process Control Systems:
Knowledge of DCS (Delta
V), SCADA (Aveva), PLCs, and related automation technologies; understanding of machine connectivity and data acquisition into higher‑level applications using OPC.
