The Technical Events Specialist plays a vital role in the planning, preparation, and execution of all technical and production elements during events s position supports a wide range of performances, rehearsals, assemblies, and school events (including workshops, presentations, etc..), ensuring high-quality lighting, sound and logistical execution. The role also includes managing technical equipment, overseeing inventory, supporting department logistics, and mentoring student technical crews.

The person also supports other IT department activities as needed, including helpdesk support and the troubleshooting of printers, interactive displays, and other hardware.

Responsibilities

Technical Production

  • Operate, program, and maintain lighting, sound, and projection systems for performances, concerts, assemblies, and other on and off campus events.
  • Provide hands-on technical support for departmental productions including musicals, showcases, recitals, and festivals.
  • Set up and strike events, ensuring that performance spaces are safely and promptly restored to their original state.
  • Perform lighting resets and technical adjustments as needed between events and rehearsals.

Event Coordination

  • Attend evening and weekend rehearsals and events as needed to support technical execution.
  • Collaborate with faculty and department leads to ensure all technical aspects are anticipated and supported.

Inventory & Equipment Oversight

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and records of all technical equipment stored in the Palmer Center and other venues.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly stored, maintained, and in working order.
  • Monitor technical needs and submit purchase or repair requests in collaboration with the Director of Performing Arts.

Student Mentorship

  • Supervise, guide, and train student technical crews in lighting, sound, and backstage operations.
  • Promote safe and responsible use of all technical equipment and performance spaces.
  • Support student learning in technical theater by collaborating with teaching faculty where appropriate.

Planning & Administration

  • Attend departmental meetings and planning sessions to provide insight on technical logistics, equipment needs, and scheduling.
  • Work collaboratively with the maintenance team, operations staff, and administrative personnel to coordinate event support.
  • Support the technical requirements of special events and school celebrations.

IT Support

  • Support IT department activities as needed, including user assistance and the management of printers, interactive boards, and hardware such as laptops, iPads, etc.
Education & Experience
  • Fluency in English (either mother tongue or at least a solid B2-C1 level)
  • Fluency in Italian is preferred
  • At least two years of in performing arts, event planning, or production coordination, including experience with live event production in a school or educational setting
  • Previous proven administrative and communication experience, including email, scheduling, and logistics
  • Previous proven experience in an IT department as IT Assistant or equivalent
  • Knowledge of student information systems such as Veracross is a plus
  • Expertise with Apple products and Google Workspace strongly preferred

Additional comments

The role of AV & Event Technology Specialist requires evening and weekend work, when needed to meet the needs of the Programs and the School.

The AV & Event Technology Specialist may be required to complete other tasks as per the School’s instructions and in line with the Swiss Law provisions. Attendance at evening and weekend rehearsals, and other events may be required, as needed.
