Northwestern Illinois Association seeks a Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to serve students with hearing loss across member school districts. The DHH Teacher provides direct instruction, develops and monitors IEPs, and adapts curriculum to support language, communication, and academic growth. This role collaborates closely with general and special educators, related service providers, and families, and supports use of hearing technology. NIA offers a collaborative, student-centered environment with strong professional development and opportunities to impact outcomes for diverse learners regionally.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing across member districts
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals focused on language, communication, and academic growth
  • Collaborate with general and special education staff, SLPs, and related service providers
  • Adapt curriculum and classroom materials to support access for DHH students
  • Train and consult with teachers, paraprofessionals, and families on hearing technology and communication strategies
  • Conduct assessments and maintain accurate progress monitoring data
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and provide expertise on DHH needs
  • Support student transition and self-advocacy skills in school environments
