Sign Language Interpreter

The National Innovation Association (NIA), a leader in fostering innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to facilitate communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in educational settings. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that communication barriers are removed, thus enhancing learning opportunities and participation for all attendees within our inventive community.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate and timely interpretation between American Sign Language (ASL) and English during workshops, conferences, and meetings hosted by NIA.
• Prepare for specialized vocabulary used in NIA events by researching technical and industry-specific terms in advance.
• Assist in the production of accessible educational materials, such as captioning and transcription services.
• Collaborate with educational staff to ensure the delivery of inclusive presentations and materials that adhere to accessibility standards.
• Promote an understanding of deaf culture and effective communication practices among team members and participants at NIA events.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in American Sign Language and thorough understanding of sign language interpreting ethics.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Experience with transcription and captioning services.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
