About the role

Join our Treatment Court team as a Probation Officer dedicated to helping medium- and high-risk offenders successfully complete court-ordered programs. Working under the Treatment Court Supervisor and Director, you will carry a specialized caseload, connecting defendants with community services, monitoring compliance, and collaborating with the full Treatment Court team to support rehabilitation and public safety.

This is a union position with a non-traditional schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

What you'll do
  • Supervise and counsel defendants placed on your caseload, monitoring all conditions of probation as ordered by the Twenty-Third Judicial Circuit Court and reporting violations to the State's Attorney's Office.
  • Conduct enhanced face-to-face supervision contacts guided by Risk/Need assessment tools and individualized defendant needs.
  • Prepare and present accurate, timely case information for court proceedings, including written reports and testimony.
  • Refer defendants to appropriate community social service agencies and advocate on their behalf for needed services.
  • Collaborate closely with the Treatment Court team to report defendant progress, and to deliver sanctions and incentives as directed.
  • Apply the Effective Casework Model (ECW) in all casework interactions.
  • Maintain accurate case records and submit weekly activity and monthly statistical reports.
  • Attend court sessions, staffing, team meetings, and conduct home visits as required.
  • Build and sustain positive working relationships with allied agencies and community partners.
What you'll bring
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (required); prior experience in probation, criminal justice, social work, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, professional reports for court and agency use.
  • Effective oral communication skills to gather information from defendants and convey their needs to service providers.
  • Sound analytical judgment and problem-solving ability for casework decisions and policy compliance.
  • Cultural sensitivity and interpersonal awareness across diverse defendant populations.
  • Familiarity with local community social service agencies and resources.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills to handle a varied caseload and meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to transport yourself as required for field work and home visits.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
Schedule & working conditions

This position is primarily office-based with regular court appearances, home visits, and community agency contacts. A flexible, adaptable schedule is essential, as evening, weekend, and occasional holiday hours are part of the role.
