ASSISTANT, JENNIFER KEEPING CENTRE – CASUAL

Cape Breton University is seeking applicants interested in joining the Jennifer Keeping Centre team within Academic Support Services as an Assistant.
This position will be on a casual basis.
The Assistant will provide support services to the Jennifer Keeping Centre (JKC) – arrange and assist with the provision of services to CBU students with disabilities involving the acquisition, maintenance, and the implementation of assistive technologies as well as the coordination of support services such as note takers, tutors, scheduling proctors, and scribes for tests. The Assistant will also maintain and update files and collect and complete student employment timesheets.
Assist students with accessing relevant information and services in order to work and study successfully at CBU:
- Arrange/schedule tutors and note takers.
- Schedule proctors and scribes for tests/exams.
- Maintain all student files.
- Post transactions to student records to allow the Manager to track monies expended.
- Coordinate use of loaner equipment.
- Prepare memos and standard letters as required.
- Prepare invoices for services provided.
- Ensure accurate completion and submission of student employee timesheets.
- Maintain statistics of students using the JKC and services requested.
- Maintain familiarity with new assistive technologies and procedures/funding available to students.
Provide administrative support for the JKC:
- Provide reception services for students and visitors to the JKC.
- Provide clerical support such as typing letters and/or reports, photocopying, and maintenance of all office files.
- Order office supplies as needed.
- Forward appropriate information to high school guidance counselors.
- Maintain contact information on societies for persons with disabilities.
- Maintain working knowledge of the CBU Academic Calendar and JKC policies and procedures.
Other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Relevant degree, diploma, or certificate. Candidates with a combination of academic and relevant experience may be considered.
- One (1) year experience in an academic environment, preferably post-secondary.
- Maturity and experience in working with persons with disabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email and internet.
- Experience with Accommodate software would be an asset
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills.
