Reporting to the Zone Manager, Emergency Preparedness, the Emergency Preparedness Consultant coordinates activities within the designated zone related to emergency planning, response, education & training, emergency exercising, and continuity planning. The Consultant supports the Incident Management Team, collaborates with the Emerging and Re‑Emerging Infections Network (ERIN) on outbreak and pandemic planning, and ensures compliance with accreditation, legislative, and continuous improvement requirements.
About YouWe would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- University Degree in Emergency/Disaster Management or
- Advanced Diploma in Emergency Management with relevant continuing education and progressive leadership experience
- Master’s Degree in Emergency/Disaster Management or a related field (asset)
- Three (3) years of recent, related experience in:
- Developing and implementing emergency preparedness plans, procedures, protocols, and guidelines
- Developing and implementing Business Continuity Plans/Continuity of Operations Plans, procedures, protocols, and guidelines
- Delivering adult training and education
- Managing emergency exercise programs such as HSEEP (FEMA)
- Working in intergovernmental relationships and strategic partnerships
- Resident of Cape Breton, preferably within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality
- Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or Associate Emergency Manager (AEM); if not, a commitment to obtain the designation within a specified time
- Experience or certification in Business Continuity Planning or Continuity of Operations Program (BCP/COOP certification an asset)
- Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning through continuing education in risk and emergency management, continuity planning, project and change management, and response programs
- Healthcare or public health emergency management experience (asset)
- Ability to lead with confidence, patience, and integrity during emergencies
- Highly effective written and verbal communication, collaboration, and coordination skills
- Ability to work positively in stressful situations
- Good project management skills; able to plan, organize, and direct testing of emergency response, recovery support, and business resumption procedures
- Excellent critical thinking and problem‑solving skills with the ability to handle conflicting demands and interruptions
- Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office products, internet, and electronic mail
- Experience engaging, mentoring, and empowering teams and stakeholders in a collaborative, participatory manner
- Competency in other languages (French preferred)
- Travel to various sites required; must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
Permanent full‑time position; 75 hours biweekly
Compensation and Benefits$39.29 - $49.12 hourly
