Opportunity

We’re seeking an Intermediate Terrestrial Ecologist or Environmental Scientist with a minimum of 5 years of experience in vegetation ecology and wetlands to join our Environmental Services Team in Atlantic Canada. This is a full‑time permanent position. The hiring process is ongoing, and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and/or participate in field programs, along with associated data entry and management.
  • Wetland delineation and functional assessment.
  • Vascular plant surveys and vegetation community characterization.
  • Design and implement baseline wetland and vegetation surveys for species and ecosystems.
  • Contribute to and/or write technical reports such as results of baseline desktop and field studies.
  • Assess potential effects to plants and ecosystems as a result of development projects.
  • Provide recommendations for suitable management and mitigation measures.
  • Develop environmental monitoring and management plans.
  • Prepare restoration and/or revegetation plans and designs.
  • Travel to various local and/or remote field sites, with occasional overnight travel and 1‑2 week shifts away from home.
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) program.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experience in the collection of biological and physical field data in disciplines such as wetlands and vascular plants.
  • Knowledge of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador flora, ecosystem classification, and provincial data collection protocols.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs and endure long days of physically and mentally challenging fieldwork while maintaining a positive, solutions‑focused attitude.
  • Able to work effectively in a team atmosphere and independently, as required.
  • Willingness to work in remote locations in a range of weather conditions, with overnight travel.
  • Time‑management skills that include balancing short‑term and immediate work commitments with varying priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal, technical writing, electronic communications, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong initiative and the ability to adapt to changing conditions and make independent, informed decisions.
  • Knowledge of current federal and provincial regulatory requirements relating to vegetation and wetlands.
  • A bachelor or graduate degree, or technical diploma in biology, ecology, botany, environmental management, or a related environmental field, or equivalent skills.
  • Previous experience working in the environmental consulting industry is an asset.
  • Current health and safety training (First Aid, auxiliary vehicles, etc.) is requested; please include information on field‑based skills/experience.
  • Typical office environment with long periods of computer work; field work may expose you to inclement weather.
Additional Skills (Optional)
  • Completion of wetland delineation and/or WESP‑AC training courses.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and implementing field programs.
  • Experience working with GIS software and digital data collection tools.
Education and Experience
  • Preferred:
    Bachelor or graduate degree in biology, ecology, botany, environmental management, or a related environmental field.
  • Relevant experience in environmental consulting is an asset.
Pay Range
  • Locations in PEI: $69,200.00 – $ annually
