Groundsperson - Sylva, NC
The Groundsperson clears brush and trees as directed and performs clean-up on each job site. Previous experience in landscaping, construction, or other outdoor work preferred. Driver's License is preferred but not required. This is a full-time role with benefits that include medical, vision, and dental insurance, as well as the option for enrollment into our 401K retirement plan.
Essential functions include following and helping enforce safe practices and rules, keeping work area clear of debris, using handsaws, pole saws, and pruners to cut brush and trees, loading and unloading trucks with logs, brush, and debris, performing general clean-up of job sites, carrying, preparing, and storing materials, tools, and equipment at work site, setting up and breaking down road signs as directed, flagging traffic to protect employees and the public from potential harm or injury, driving truck or operating other equipment as assigned, performing basic maintenance service on trucks and equipment, safeguarding employees and public from hazards in and around the work area, and performing duties for storm work as needed.
Experience requirements include prior experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred. Education requirements include a high school diploma or education equivalent preferred. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include physical strength and balance to drag heavy limbs, ability to work outdoors under varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions, ability to hear verbal instructions from a distance, ability to obtain and maintain first-aid certification and CPR, ability to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), ability to comprehend verbal job instructions/information, ability to maintain balance over uneven terrain, ability to communicate with others, endurance necessary to perform duties throughout a standard eight or ten hour day, ability to operate and service all required tools and equipment, and ability to travel out of town for storm restoration work when needed.
This position requires employee to be able to pass a background check and drug screen as required for this job. Work authorization requirements include meeting I-9 requirements.
