Tax Manager

Harbor Accounting Group is a growing tax and accounting firm serving closely held businesses, individuals, trusts, and estates. As we continue to expand, we're looking for a Tax Manager who wants more than a review role.

You'll work directly with business owners and high-net-worth individuals, helping them navigate complex tax matters while identifying planning opportunities that create real value.

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills. Someone who can review complex tax work with confidence, guide clients through sophisticated tax issues in plain English, and take ownership of engagements from start to finish.

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager / Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with 7+ years of public accounting experience to lead client engagements, oversee complex tax matters, and provide leadership to our growing team.

This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical expertise with excellent client relationship skills. You'll work directly with business owners and individual clients, helping them understand complex tax issues, identify planning opportunities, and make informed decisions throughout the year.

Beyond technical tax work, you'll be expected to take ownership of client relationships, support the development of junior staff, and help ensure engagements move smoothly from planning through filing. We are looking for someone who is proactive, accountable, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering an exceptional client experience.

• Oversee preparation and review of individual, corporate, partnership, trust, and estate tax returns (Forms 1040, 1120, 1065, 1041, etc.).
• Manage payroll and sales tax filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
• Serve as the primary client contact, ensuring clear communication, responsiveness, and exceptional service.
• Manage and mentor staff accountants and preparers on tax compliance, review standards, and client management.
• Ensure efficient tax workflows using advanced technology and best practices.
• Identify and implement tax planning opportunities to maximize client value.
• Collaborate with firm leadership to enhance tax processes, maintain compliance, and drive overall growth.

• Must have experience with CCH Prosystems, Lacerte or Ultra Tax
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Preferred (Enrolled Agents welcome to apply)
• Minimum 7+ years of public accounting experience, with a strong focus on tax
• Proven experience preparing 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120, 1120-S, and other federal and state tax returns
• Experience with 1031 exchanges, pass-through entity tax (PTET), filing extensions, and tax planning
• Experience taking full ownership of partner accounts and managing them end-to-end
• Knowledge of payroll and sales tax processes
• Strong client communication skills and experience maintaining client relationships
• Experience managing, mentoring, and training staff
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
• Must have experience with Quickbooks desktop and Quickbooks online
• Experience with Autoflow and Sureprep is a plus
• Salary range: $140,000 – $180,000, commensurate with experience
