Special Education Teacher

Variety Child Learning Center (VCLC) is a 4410 not-for-profit agency providing quality educational and therapeutic services to young children with disabilities. Our facilities are located in Syosset, Levittown, and East Northport, NY. Our schools operate 12 months/year following a school-based calendar. Hours are typically 8:00am-3:30pm Monday-Friday.

We are currently accepting applications for Special Education Teachers with immediate, July, and September start dates. Recent graduates welcome! Applications are reviewed as they are received.

• Develop and deliver individualized, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with each student’s IEP goals across all developmental domains
• Plan and implement curriculum consistent with the New York State Prekindergarten Learning Standards and Early Learning Guidelines.
• Monitor, assess, and document student progress; maintain accurate data and prepare required progress reports in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with related service providers and participate in CPSE meetings to support coordinated service delivery and IEP development.
• Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment; implement positive behavior supports and individualized behavior plans as needed.

Communicate effectively with families and supervise/support classroom staff to ensure consistent implementation of instructional and behavioral strategies.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in special education or related field
• NYS Professional Certification in Students with Disabilities Birth to Grade 2 or All Grades
• Additional ELL certification a plus

This job operates in a school environment. Activities usually take place in the classroom, in the gym, outside on the playground, or in special activity rooms. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, I-pads, printers/fax/scanner, telephone, and shredder.

This role may be physically demanding. The employee is required to be non-sedentary. Must be able to stand; run, walk; sit; bend, climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch;
The employee must be able to lift an average pre-school age child (35 pounds) and school age child (50 pounds).
