Location: City of Syracuse

Accounting and Payroll Associate

$50,000–$55,000 annually, depending on experience

Full-time | Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:00 PM, some overtime may be needed

Sapphire Recruitment is hiring an Accounting and Payroll Associate for a full-time opportunity in the North Syracuse area. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys detailed administrative accounting work, takes pride in accuracy, and can communicate professionally with employees, leadership, and outside contacts.

The right person will be dependable, approachable, organized, and comfortable handling confidential information. This role requires someone who can be both helpful and firm when needed, while maintaining a diplomatic and professional approach.

Responsibilities include:
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for approximately 55–60 employees
  • Support accounts payable, including receiving invoices, preparing requisitions, tracking approvals, and processing payments
  • Prepare payment documentation and assist with check processing
  • Perform bank transfers related to payroll and accounts payable activity
  • Maintain accurate accounts payable files and records
  • Provide documentation for reconciliations
  • Assist with new hire onboarding paperwork
  • Support employee benefits administration
  • Help maintain organized, accurate financial and employee records
  • Provide administrative support as needed
What we’re looking for:
  • Previous Accounts Payable experience
  • Payroll experience helpful, but not required for someone with solid accounting skills
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Human Resources and/or Benefits administration experience is a plus
  • Professional, approachable, and courteous communication style
  • Ability to work well with leadership, employees, and outside contacts
  • Comfortable being firm, fair, and diplomatic
  • High level of discretion with confidential information
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
