Help Build the Next Generation of Evans & Bennett

Evans & Bennett, LLP has served Central New York for more than 75 years. We are entering a deliberate period of leadership transition that creates a rare opportunity for an experienced public-accounting professional to help shape the firm’s next generation.

We are seeking an Audit Manager who is ready for more than another engagement-management position. This role is designed for someone who wants a clearer path to advancement, greater access to firm leadership and the opportunity to influence how a successful, locally owned CPA firm evolves.

Our next generation will combine Evans & Bennett’s established client relationships, deep community roots and longstanding reputation with a progressive approach to technology, client service, staff development and firm operations. We are looking for a builder who wants to lead people, strengthen client relationships and help determine what comes next.

The Opportunity

The Audit Manager will manage audits, reviews and compilations for privately held and family-owned businesses, manufacturers, broker-dealers, professional service organizations, non-profits and employee benefit plans.

The successful candidate will oversee engagements from planning through issuance, serve as a primary client contact and develop members of the professional staff. The position provides a clear and intentional path to partnership for someone who demonstrates the technical ability, judgment, leadership and relationship-management skills required to become an owner of the firm.

Candidates are not expected to bring an existing book of business. The opportunity is centered on serving established Evans & Bennett clients and assuming increasing client, team and firm-leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, manage and review audits, reviews and compilations in accordance with applicable professional standards.
  • Oversee engagement planning, fieldwork, financial-statement preparation, reporting and issuance.
  • Review work papers, financial statements, disclosures and required client communications.
  • Manage engagement staffing, budgets, deadlines, billing, realization and overall progress.
  • Serve as a primary client contact and communicate accounting matters and recommendations clearly.
  • Supervise, train and mentor staff and senior accountants.
  • Provide timely performance feedback and support the development of the professional team.
  • Research accounting and auditing matters and remain current on changes in GAAP, GAAS and related standards.
  • Participate in firm training, quality-management and process-improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in tax or advisory work based on the candidate’s experience and interests.
Qualifications
  • At least five years of progressive public-accounting experience
, primarily in audit and assurance.
  • Experience managing or substantially leading audits, reviews and compilations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Active CPA license strongly preferred. Candidates who have completed the CPA examination, are awaiting licensure or are making substantial progress toward licensure may also be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, GAAS and financial-statement reporting requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements, deadlines and client relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop professional staff.
  • Strong communication, organization, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Sound professional judgment and a commitment to high‑quality client service.
  • Desire and demonstrated potential to advance into firm leadership and partnership.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with CCH Engagement is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits

The base salary for this position is $90,000–$125,000
, depending on experience and qualifications. The position is also eligible for production-based incentive compensation in addition to base salary.

Benefits include:

  • Firm-paid Gold-level individual health insurance coverage
  • Group term life and disability insurance
  • Paid vacation, PTO and holidays
  • Reduced summer hours
  • Firm-paid continuing professional education
  • CPA license and professional‑membership reimbursement
  • Relocation advance or reimbursement of up to $3,000
  • Retirement-plan eligibility and employer matching contributions after one full year of service, with January 1 entry
  • Student‑loan payment reimbursement of up to $3,000 annually after one full year of service, with May 1 entry
  • Direct access to firm leadership and a genuine path toward partnership
