Job Description:

The Office of Residence Life & Student Conduct is seeking a dependable, professional, and student-focused Federal Work-Study Student Assistant to help support the daily operations of the office. This position is open to all eligible students, including both residential and commuter students.

The Student Assistant will serve as one of the first points of contact for students, staff, and visitors. The position requires someone who is comfortable interacting with others, providing stellar customer service, answering questions, and helping create a welcoming and professional office environment.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Answering and directing incoming phone calls and assisting students with general questions.
  • Providing professional, friendly, and timely customer service to students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
  • Receiving, organizing, and accurately logging student packages and deliveries.
  • Assisting students with residence hall lock-outs and following established procedures.
  • Assisting with bulletin boards, flyers, and other department communication materials.
  • Helping prepare for and support campus wide programs, events, and activities.
  • Assisting with general office tasks such as filing, organizing, data entry, copying, and maintaining office materials.
  • Supporting professional staff with special projects and other departmental initiatives.
  • Completing other duties as assigned based on the needs of the department.

Position of Trust & Responsibility

This position is considered a position of trust and responsibility. As part of their duties, student employees may have limited access to student information that is not intended for general access. Student employees must demonstrate maturity, professionalism, discretion, and good judgment at all times.

Students in this position are expected to maintain confidentiality, protect student information, follow College policies and procedures, and understand when a question or concern should be referred to a professional staff member. This position requires students to understand that information they may encounter while working in the office should not be shared with other students or individuals who are not authorized to receive it.

Students may be scheduled for up to 20 hours per week, depending on departmental needs. The full 20 hours is not guaranteed each week. Available hours and shifts will be determined based on office operations, staffing needs, and the student's availability.

Students should carefully review their class schedule and other commitments before applying and should only indicate availability for times they can consistently work. The department will make every effort to provide students with meaningful work hours while ensuring that staffing needs are met.

This position is a great opportunity for students who want to develop their customer service, communication, administrative, problem-solving, and professional workplace skills while contributing to the Residence Life community.
