Kamp Kiwanis, in upstate New York, offers a unique Kamp experience for campers ages 8-14, a CIT/Teen program for teens ages 15-17 and for adults with high functioning special needs ages 18+. The child program at Kamp is designed to mainstream all kampers including up to 20 each session with special needs. We want our Kampers to explore the world through environmental and cultural activities while respecting the rights and dignity of all kampers and staff.
Kampers and staff work together to build self-esteem and cooperative peer relationships.
Kamp Kiwanis offers a special place for self-discovery, laughter, fun and personal growth. Through small group interactions, kampers have the opportunity to learn more about themselves and others as well as increase their self-confidence. By offering positive role models and challenging activities, we foster kampers’ development of new skills and respect for the community.
SummaryAll counselors are responsible for maintaining safety and supervision of each camper, being positive role models for campers, establishing a relationship with each camper and working towards the goal of group cohesiveness. In addition, counselors must have an understanding and willingness to abide by the camp’s philosophy, mission and objectives.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOther duties may be assigned.
Pre-Camp Responsibilities- Participation at all sessions of Staff Training
- Participation at all Unit and Staff meetings
- Ability to ask for assistance as needed from Unit Leader and other leadership staff
- Develop strong leadership skills including the ability to be a problem solver
- Develop appropriate discipline measures for campers
- Responsible for the safety of assigned camper groups on a daily basis and during all camp activities
- Establish a positive rapport & understanding of each individual camper
- Must model expected behaviors and participation to campers
- Take an active role in maintaining the cleanliness of the camp community
- Create a well-rounded creative weekly schedule with the input of campers
- Plan age-appropriate group activities for open activity periods
- Participate in development & implementation of weekly Unit programs
- Implement activities that will encourage group cohesion
- Develop weekly plans for electives
- Active participation in camp-wide special events and evening activities
- Be prepared to fill transition times and downtime with short activities to keep campers engaged
- Understand and accept the Camp’s philosophy and objectives and work towards its fulfillment
- Participation at all staff meetings
- Completion of written materials as requested, such as:
- Accurate daily attendance
- Weekly schedule
- Requisition s for materials requested
- Accurate daily lunch and snack counts
Salary starting at $435/wk depending on experience and qualifications.

Education / Experience- Completion of High School/GED
