Position Description
The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in managing construction projects to ensure productivity, quality, and safety objectives are met. The role involves overseeing field staff, assisting in project execution, and contributing to the overall success of the project. The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and Architects to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.

- Assist the Superintendent in managing multiple construction projects, ensuring adherence to design, budget, and schedule requirements in collaboration with Project Managers, Owners, Engineers, and Architects.
- Provide direct supervision and support to field employees, including foremen and tradespeople, to ensure efficient and effective execution of construction tasks.
- Assist with scheduling crew members for individual job sites in coordination with the Project Manager.
- Monitor and ensure the quality and safety of work performed by field crews, conducting regular site visits to assess performance and adherence to safety protocols.
- Foster teamwork and collaboration among all trades and field staff to ensure smooth coordination and successful project outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with the Project Management team to meet project goals related to quality, safety, profitability, and timeline.
- Support the development and mentoring of field staff, contributing to the growth and advancement of future leaders.
- Participate in performance evaluations, documenting reviews, and addressing any disciplinary issues as needed.
- Assist in estimating labor needs, developing unit costs, and tracking labor performance against budgeted costs.
- Work with the estimating department to provide insights on construction methods and best practices for implementing work efficiently and safely.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with project owners, inspectors, and other stakeholders.
- Step into the role of Superintendent on assigned projects when needed.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a construction role, with experience in commercial projects preferred.
- Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, project contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to schedule and manage multiple job sites and field staff.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships across all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to motivate and provide feedback to field staff.
- Ability to make quick and effective decisions, analyze situations, and solve problems efficiently.
