Overview

Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Microelectronics and Photonics (Teaching-Focused). The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Queen’s University at Kingston, Canada, invites applications for a Tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with specialization in microelectronics and photonics, with a preferred starting date of July 1, 2026. This posting is to fill an existing vacancy within the University. Queen’s University is situated on traditional Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee Territory.

The main criteria for selection include outstanding teaching contributions at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels, a genuine commitment to academic and teaching excellence, and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and student-centred environment. Teaching will make up approximately 70% of this position. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute through service to the department, the Faculty, the University, and/or the broader community.

Salary is expected to be between $150,000 and $180,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications
  • Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering or equivalent degrees completed at the start date of the appointment.
  • Professional engineering licensure in Canada, or the eligibility to obtain licensure, is required. Licensure in any Canadian province (e.g., P.Eng., Limited engineering license, provisional engineering license, etc.) is acceptable.
Responsibilities and expectations
  • Outstanding teaching contributions at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels with a commitment to academic and teaching excellence.
  • Demonstrated excellence in research with high-quality scholarly output and potential for independent research leading to peer‑reviewed publications and external funding; expertise should complement existing research areas in the department.
  • Ongoing commitment to academic and pedagogical excellence in support of the department’s programs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and student‑centred environment.
  • Contributions through service to the department, the Faculty, the University, and/or the broader community.
