CR Fletcher is recruiting for a Special Education Teacher provides educational leadership for a preschool classroom, supervising paraprofessional staff and implementing curriculum activities in accordance with each child's Individualized Education Program (IEP) and New York State regulations. This role works closely with a multidisciplinary team, families, and other departments to ensure the highest quality educational services.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a welcoming, culturally responsive, and orderly classroom environment.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and community partners.
- Actively engage with children throughout the day in a developmentally appropriate manner.
- Implement positive classroom management strategies and foster high expectations for students.
- Develop and execute weekly lesson plans addressing all developmental domains and IEP goals.
- Monitor student progress through ongoing assessment and data tracking; adjust teaching strategies as needed.
- Differentiate instruction and modify the environment to meet individual needs.
- Provide regular updates and support to parents, including annual conferences.
- Attend and contribute to CPSE/CSE meetings and facilitate classroom team meetings.
- Supervise and guide paraprofessionals, ensuring effective classroom support and student engagement.
- Participate in training, committees, and professional development opportunities.
- Master's degree in education OR Bachelor's degree in education/related field with a plan to obtain a Master's.
- New York State certification in Special Education or Students with Disabilities (Birth-2 or All Grades) OR alternate certification with a plan to obtain SWD certification.
- Teaching experience with young children.
- Understanding of developmental delays, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, sensory integration issues, speech/language delays, and motor delays.
- Knowledge of child development and positive behavior supports.
