Position: Environmental Science/Geology Faculty; Full-Time, Tenure Track - Onondaga Community College
Job Description:

The Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Environmental Science, beginning Fall 2026.

This is a campus-based position. Faculty are expected to teach face-to-face courses on campus and be regularly present to support instruction, advising, and departmental responsibilities. While the department offers a limited number of online and hybrid courses, these are part of the overall instructional portfolio and do not constitute a remote appointment.

The primary focus of this position is the development and delivery of Environmental Science coursework and the establishment of clear transfer pathways aligned with SUNY and regional four-year institutions. The successful candidate must also be qualified to teach introductory Physical and Historical Geology (lecture and laboratory), which are offered primarily as general education science options.

Teaching Responsibilities

* Teach Environmental Science courses, including introductory sustainability-focused coursework

* Develop additional Environmental Science offerings aligned with transfer and applied pathways

* Teach Physical Geology and Historical Geology (lecture and laboratory) as needed

* Teach introductory Earth Science or related courses, as scheduling requires

* Teaching assignments will be determined by enrollment patterns and departmental needs. Geology courses are offered primarily to support general education science requirements.

Instructional and Programmatic Focus

* Build and refine Environmental Science curriculum aligned with transfer expectations

* Develop pathways that connect environmental science to engineering, applied science, and workforce-oriented programs

* Integrate systems-based and quantitative approaches to environmental topics

* Maintain rigorous introductory geology courses serving a general education population

* Contribute to stable and sustainable growth in environmental science enrollment

Major Responsibilities

* Teach face-to-face Environmental Science and introductory Geology courses

* Maintain regular on-campus availability for student support and advising

* Provide academic advising focused on transfer readiness

* Develop and revise curriculum aligned with institutional learning outcomes

* Participate in articulation discussions with four-year partners as appropriate

* Assess student learning and participate in outcomes-based assessment activities

* Ensure safe laboratory practices

* Use appropriate instructional technology

* Obtain Quality Matters (QM) certification within a reasonable timeframe if teaching online or hybrid courses

* Participate in departmental, school, and college service activities

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Geoscience, Geology, Earth Science, or a closely related field from an accredited university, college or foreign equivalency.

OR

* Master's degree in a related discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in Environmental Science or Geology from an accredited university, college or foreign equivalency.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Experience teaching Environmental Science at the college level

* Experience teaching introductory geology lecture and laboratory courses

* Experience developing transfer-oriented curricula

* Ability to connect environmental science to engineering, applied science, or sustainability-focused fields

* Experience teaching in a community college or open-access institution

* Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and other languages will be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

* Strong communication and organizational skills

* Ability to teach environmental systems using quantitative and applied approaches

* Ability to maintain effective laboratory instruction

* Commitment to collaborative departmental work

Additional Information:

* Salary for Assistant Professor level is $61,466.
