Job DescriptionThe Department of Film and Media Arts seeks a Part‑Time Instructor to teach FIL 250 M002, a 3‑credit hour course, during Fall 2026.
Course focus:
The cinematic image as a central vehicle for meaning in international cinema. Through close analysis of key films and directors, students examine how cinematography, narrative structure, and visual authorship interact to shape storytelling, atmosphere, and interpretation.
- MFA in Film, Cinema Studies or related discipline.
- Advanced degree or equivalent professional experience encouraged.
- Minimum 3 years of college‑level teaching experience, with demonstrated ability to teach courses in cinematography, film aesthetics, or international/auteur cinema at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
- Expertise in the history and theory of cinematography and the auteur tradition, including fluency with canonical and contemporary international directors and movements.
- Familiarity with both analog/photographic origins and contemporary digital cinematographic practice.
- Develop and maintain a class syllabus.
- Prepare lectures, projects, and student assignments.
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
- Deliver instruction aligned with course competencies and performance levels.
- Attend all designated class periods.
- Reschedule or obtain a substitute if unable to teach due to illness or emergency, notifying the department chair.
- Submit mid‑semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
- Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Build a positive rapport with students and faculty.
