Job Description:

BROAD FUNCTION

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is a multifaceted program with the primary mission of supporting historically underrepresented students in their educational pathway, including admission to EOP, transition to college, academic success, retention, and degree completion.

The primary responsibility of the Director of EOP is the administration of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), ensuring compliance with the guidelines and policies of the New York State Education Department, New York State Office of Opportunity Programs, and OCC. The Director collaborates with academic departments, student engagement and enrollment offices.

The Director demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that economically and educationally disadvantaged students receive the services and support needed to achieve their academic and career goals.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership, oversee overall planning, and supervise all staff, activities, and program development for EOP, including the Summer Institute and orientation programs for students and parents.

    These activities also include, but are not limited to, program design, tutoring, counseling, mentoring, academic advising, and career/transfer advising.
  • Coordinate with the Recruitment and Admissions Office in recruiting and identifying potential EOP students, and coordinate with the Financial Aid Office and Student Accounts on financial eligibility, financial aid, and related issues for EOP students.
  • Review prospective EOP students' applications and documentation for EOP admission and determine which applicants are to be accepted within the established parameters including the number of students OCC has contracted to serve.
  • Coordinate with EOP navigators and faculty to provide appropriate advisement and counseling activities for EOP students. Monitor faculty-submitted concerns through Lazer Success and ensure timely follow-up by assigned EOP Navigators to address academic, attendance, and student success issues. Work closely with navigators and staff to ensure thorough and accurate data maintenance.
  • Initiate and implement enrichment activities for EOP students, in concert with EOP navigators and other student services professionals, and in alignment with campus retention strategies for underserved populations.
  • Develop and maintain contact with community agencies, transfer institutions, and other EOP directors. Complete transfer verifications for other colleges' EOP offices in a timely manner.
  • Prepare the annual EOP Summer Institute proposal in accordance with NYS guidelines and campus priorities; oversee the Summer Institute to ensure a quality experience for participants and adherence to funding source expectations and budget requirements.
  • Complete all EOP reporting accurately and on time. This includes reports required by the New York State Office of Opportunity Programs, the New York State Education Department, and OCC (budget, semester enrollment, summer, final, and monthly contact/progress reports).
