Position: Part-Time Faculty: DRA 435.1 Jazz Dance IV (Fall 2026)
Location: City of Syracuse

Job Description

The Department of Drama within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part‑Time Instructor to teach DRA 435 Jazz Dance IV, a two‑credit hour course, during the Fall semester, 2026. The course consists of a progressive studio study of the technique and theory of classical theatrical dance for upper‑level Jazz Dance majors in Musical Theater.

Job Summary and Schedule

Part‑time instructor, two credit hours; lesson period 80 minutes, twice weekly. Class location:
Archbold Theater 149.

Hours:

Tu/Th 11:00 AM‑12:20 PM; office hours are required.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years teaching dance at the college level.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness.
Responsibilities
  • Teaching class twice per week for 80 minutes each session; creating or adapting a current syllabus.
  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Preparation of lectures, projects, or other student assignments.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meeting all designated class periods.
  • Rescheduling classes due to illness or emergencies with best effort to obtain a substitute.
  • Notifying the department chair of absence and plan to cover the class.
  • Submitting completed mid‑semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
