Part‑Time Faculty – BIO 453 Ecology Laboratory (Fall 2026)
Course: BIO 453 Ecology Laboratory, 3 credits. Appointment starts August 17, 2026 and runs through the Fall 2026 semester. This laboratory course focuses on ecological research, emphasizing student‑driven hypothesis generation, project design, statistical analysis, scientific writing, data presentation, and literature review. Lectures cover ecosystems, communities, and global change.
This course meets in‑person on the Syracuse University campus.
Pay will be determined based on the instructor’s per‑credit rate history within the hiring department. All course offerings are subject to funding availability and enrollment.
Responsibilities- Developing and/or updating the class syllabus.
- Ordering required books and materials in advance of the class start date.
- Preparing lectures, projects, and other student assignments.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
- Meeting all designated class periods; if unable to meet, rescheduling the class or arranging a substitute, and notifying the department chair or designated contact.
- Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
- Submitting completed final grades according to university regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Completing all other course‑related duties as outlined by departmental policies for part‑time instructors.
