Part-Time Faculty: HOM/MHL 267 European Music before 1800 (Fall 2026)
The College of Arts & Sciences at Syracuse University seeks a Part-Time Faculty to teach HOM/MHL 267 European Music before 1800 (3 Credits) for the Department of Art & Music Histories during the Fall 2026 semester. This class focuses on European music before 1800 in its cultural and philosophical contexts through extensive listening and analytical focus on selected composers and works.
Presupposes familiarity with musical notation, terms, and contexts. The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department. This position is subject to funding availability and enrollment.
Ph.D. or ABDin Music History or a related field.
Part-time Instructor duties will include the following: developing and/or updating a class syllabus, ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date, preparing lectures, projects or other student assignments, maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week, presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class, meeting all designated class periods, working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes, submitting completed final grades according to University regulations, grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner, providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations, and completing all other course-related duties as outlined by your department's policies for part-time instructors.
