Part‑Time Faculty – SPA 101‑202 Spanish (Fall 2026)

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at Syracuse University seeks a part‑time instructor to teach 4‑credit section(s) of beginning and/or intermediate Spanish in the fall 2026 semester, beginning August 24, 2026 (appointment begins August 17 2026). Offer contingent upon sufficient enrollment.

• Spanish I (SPA 101) – Introductory proficiency‑based course, activities conducted in Spanish.
• Spanish II (SPA 102) – Continuing proficiency‑based course, activities conducted in Spanish.
• Spanish III (SPA 201) – Continuing proficiency‑based course, activities conducted in Spanish.
• Spanish IV (SPA 202) – Continuing proficiency‑based course, activities conducted in Spanish.

Hiring rate of pay will be determined based on the candidate’s per‑credit rate history within the hiring department. All positions are subject to funding availability and enrollment.

• Native or near‑native fluency required.
• Experience in university‑level teaching preferred.
• Experience with communicative, proficiency‑oriented language instruction preferred.
• Familiarity with flipped classroom methodology preferred.

• Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
• Ordering appropriate books and materials before the class start date.
• Preparing lectures, projects, or other student assignments.
• Maintaining scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
• Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
• Meeting all designated class periods; if unable to attend, reschedule or provide a substitute and notify the department chair.
• Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
• Submitting completed mid‑semester progress reports and final grades according to university regulations.
• Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
• Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
• Completing all other course‑related duties as outlined by your department’s policies for part‑time instructors.
• Building a positive rapport with students and faculty.
