Position: Part-Time Faculty: MND 408/608: Magazine and News Editing (Fall 2026)
The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Syracuse University is seeking an instructor(s) to teach two sections of MND 408/608 Magazine and News Editing during the Fall 2026 semester (3 credits).

Available sections meet:

Monday/Wednesday 12:45-2:05

Monday/Wednesday 2:15-3:35

Course

Description:

This class covers editorial skills demanded in media organizations: editing and rewriting copy, identifying audiences, creating content across platforms, generating ideas, working with writers, story organization, writing display copy, fact checking.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree required, master's preferred.

Job Specific Qualifications

* A strong journalism background with specific experience as an editor is required.

* Familiarity with multiple media platforms and experience teaching is preferred.

Responsibilities

It is understood that teaching assignments may include the following:

* Developing a syllabus.

* Ordering books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes in advance.

* Preparing for classes.

* Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.

* Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course; and turning in mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

Physical Requirements

* Ability to instruct the class on the days and times it is designated to meet.

* Ability to hold office hours on campus.

* Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.

Tools/Equipment

* Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
