South Campus Residence Director
The Residence Director for the South Campus Community engages in day-to-day operational, administrative, and programmatic initiatives supporting Residential Living. The position serves approximately 2,400 students residing in University-owned South Campus apartments and traditional residence halls while also supporting initiatives serving more than 12,000 students living in off-campus neighborhoods, including commuter students.
ResponsibilitiesDevelopment and implementation of the community’s educational curriculum; mentoring and coaching up to nine Resident Advisors; crisis intervention and conflict mediation; participation in an on-call crisis response rotation; resolution of violations of institutional policies and the Code of Student Conduct; planning and implementing programs designed to support students transitioning to more independent living; and coordinating outreach and engagement efforts that support student wellbeing and community expectations.
ResidentialEducation for South Campus Students
- Highly visible position in the South Campus community and in the Goldstein Student Center, actively connecting with students.
- Life on campus in the South Campus apartment area. Directs implementation of the South Campus apartment and Skyhall curriculum.
- Participates in development and implementation of large-scale initiatives for South Campus focused on student transitions and life skill development for independent living, educating students in traditional residence halls to prepare them for independent living, and supports initiatives of the Off-Campus Residential Living team.
- Ensures programs meet needs of specific populations living on South Campus, including, but not limited to, international students, veterans, and athletes.
- Provides support and referral to students experiencing conflicts, concerns, and quality-of-life issues.
- Trains, supervises, and participates in formal and informal evaluation process with anywhere from 25 – 35 paraprofessional staff, including Community Ambassadors, Main Desk Assistants, and Goldstein Student Center package room attendants.
- Mentors/coaches up to nine Resident Advisors, including their training, oversight, and feedback processes.
- Opportunity may exist to train, supervise, and evaluate a graduate practicum student.
- Provides indirect supervision of one administrative specialist and leadership of students engaged in voluntary capacities.
- Holds regular South Campus Community Ambassador (SCCA) staff meetings and Resident Advisor (RA) staff meetings to disseminate pertinent information and one-on-one meetings with SCCAs and RAs.
- Manages staff feedback and performance concerns. Engages in the performance partnership process.
- Adheres to regular University business hours, maintaining a presence in the Goldstein Student Center, as well as after-hours requirements essential for programs, meetings, and trainings.
- Develops and utilizes processes for providing engaging information to students living off-campus, including development and use of social media.
- Develops relationships with New Student Programs, Student Engagement, Center for International Services, and Athletics, among others, to ensure timely communication to students residing on South Campus.
- Strengthens relationships with the Department of Public Safety to promote student safety.
- Works with the Housing Office to learn of enrolled students who sign up to live in a South Campus apartment each year to develop targeted programmatic initiatives.
- Ensures RAs have knowledge of procedures, policies, and practices essential to supporting students off campus.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Director and Director, assists in the management of the programming and operating budgets.
- With the support of the Apartment and Off-Campus Residential Living team, assist with communications and operations on South Campus, including opening, closing, health and safety inspections, trash, noise, etc.
